NEWS & EVENTS SPOTLIGHT

3 priests and a theologian—website homepage header 375px wide.jpg
You’ve got questions? Our experts have answers, along with lots of pizza!

Back by popular demand, ‘Three Priests and a Theologian’ night happens on Friday, Aug. 20th at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall.

It sounds like it ought to be the beginning of a joke, right? “Three priests and a theologian walk into a bar...” (or, in our case, the Great Hall). It’s no joke—back by popular demand, come join three of our priests and our resident theologian, Dr. Bill Yarchin, on Friday, Aug. 20th at 6 p.m. for a pizza party and a lively discussion. Bring your theological or biblical questions and our resident experts will answer them! (Look for a Punchbowl invitation to RSVP in the next few weeks, or else email admin@stjamesnewport.org to let us know you’ll be coming.) You may find this book list helpful in discussing Biblical or theological topics.

Kids’ game night:
Aug. 20th at 6 p.m.

While the adults are getting their weighty theological questions answered in the Great Hall that evening, the kids and their friends are invited to a fun party of their own! We‘ll have a bounce house, and fun and games for everyone!

Now that we have in-person worship again, masks are optional for vaccinated people, but if you haven’t been vaccinated, please wear a mask.
  • Please contact the church office (or call 949.675.0210) if you have any questions.

Backpacks and pencils and lots of highlighters—help kids get a good start to the school year!

Benefit underserved kids through Families Forward by your donations of backpacks and other school supplies.

A new backpack on that first day of school, stuffed with supplies, sure fills kids with confidence, doesn’t it? We invite our church community to come together and give every student that same “back-to-school” opportunity. St. James is gathering backpacks and school supplies to be distributed by the nonprofit organization Families Forward to kids in need. Grade-appropriate school supplies and backpacks will be distributed to low-income elementary-, middle-, and high-school students in August, helping them start on the same foot as their peers, and building their confidence for the coming school year.

For a list of what items are needed, see the list on our events page.

Just bring your donated items each Sunday in July and drop them in our outreach bin. Alternatively, you can shop for these items online and then have Amazon (or whoever) ship them to our church address (3209 Via Lido, Newport Beach, CA 92663) and add “ATTN: Backpack Drive" to the address line.

For more events, please visit our Events page.
